VODAFONE – LIONS 8000 MILE AUTOGRAPH
CBY was commissioned by Noel Drew to design and make a table for a world’s first 5G robot that would allow British & Irish Lions players to surprise UK-based fans with live shirt signings. With supporters unable to travel to South Africa during the pandemic in 2021, Vodafone used its 5G technology to host a traditional jersey signing in UK from 8,000 miles away in South Africa.
The bespoke table was to be robust enough for the fast moving robot to be securely fixed to, as well as creating a signing station, where a removable frame would firmly settle shirts in place, providing a smooth surface for the robot to start signing in ‘real-time’.
